We are entering a post-pandemic season, and one of the first things to rear its ugly head is the feeling that, once again, we’re “behind.”
Whether it’s the feeling that we can’t keep up, can’t get a handle on our to-do list, or feel plain just overwhelmed, #thestruggleisreal!
In a recent conversation with Christy Wright, author, personal growth expert, and founder of “Business Boutique” (more info on that below), she shared encouragement to help you build your confidence, grow your faith, and become the person God wants you to be.
We walk around with this heavy belief, the lie that we’re not doing a good job...at work, at home. That we’re not doing the things God created us to do. Not being the woman God created us to be.
The only way to combat those beliefs is with the truth! We need to get out of our own way…
The problem with our calendars is not the calendar
Balance is something that we all strive for, but do we really know what we’re talking about when we use that word?
What does balance look like for you in this season? Sometimes we need a third party to give us perspective. But getting that perspective can make all the difference.
Definition of balance: Life balance is not about doing everything for an equal amount of time, it’s about doing the right things at the right time.
The end result of achieving balance is being confident with our choices, being proud of how we spend our time, and happy with our lives. In short, being the woman God created us to be!
It all starts here: Do you KNOW what you want?
Here’s a practical approach to finding balance - balance in your calendar and in life.
Ask yourself who you want to be. What do I want to be known for? In life...or in this season. Write down 3-5 adjectives/short phrases
Remember: seasons determine priorities (both calendar and life seasons), so this is not a one-and-done activity. Be aware that you will have to assess and then tweak or pivot as time goes on - it does NOT mean you “failed” with your first or most recent pass.
Ask yourself what’s right right now?
A good thing that’s not the right thing becomes a bad thing. Undertaking good at the expense of what’s best leads to stress, anxiety, and feeling guilt-laden. Give yourself permission to change your mind. Allow yourself to change your plans.
Ask yourself what do I need this week, instead of what do I need to do this week?
It’s a crucial distinction because it validates your feelings. Feelings are indicators, not dictators, but when you’re tired, stressed, or overwhelmed, it’s hard to think clearly. Today’s feelings don’t mean your whole life is out of balance. We need to listen to our feelings, just not allow them to direct our life.
What gets in the way of life balance?
Trying to do too much
Not doing enough things
Doing the wrong things
Not doing the right things
