Want to Increase Your Podcast Downloads? Try this!
I’m assuming for this episode that you’re at least periodically looking at your podcast analytics (which you can find on Apple, or possibly your podcast host). And if you’re NOT looking at them, let me start by saying “Go now and check!”
Analytics go far in telling you what episodes (and thus, topics) are most interesting to your guests, and what they want to hear more of from you.
So towards that end, if you want to increase your podcast llisteners, today I’m going to talk about what you can start doing to get those download numbers UP!
4 Things to Do If Your Podcast Downloads Are Low
Ask yourself: What fires you up? Your listeners will be able to hear your enthusiasm if you’re speaking about your passion!
Consider niching down. I know: that’s scary. You do have to watch not to niche down too much, tho, because there’s a fine line. But, you may be speaking on something too broad, and you know what they say: If you’re trying to speak to everyone, you end up speaking to no one!
Poll your audience. I was really hesitant to do this early in my podcasting career, too, but in order to increase your podcast listeners, you have to know what they want. You can poll them in IG stories or FB stories. Post in FB with some options for topics and ask them to vote. Reach out to them via email. Ask inside an episode… Be creative!
Make your episodes practical. People want practical. They listen to podcasts to take away something they can use in real life. Perhaps you could try shortening your episodes - remember that people’s attention spans are oh-so-short these days. And always keep an eye on your analytics.
Your next step
Let’s get a little artsy. Remember Venn Diagrams from your school days? Grab a pen and paper and draw a circle on the left-hand side. Inside, write whatever you’re passionate about. Draw a 2nd, slightly overlapping circle, and inside that one, write some things you’re gifted at; perhaps things that people have shared with you about what you do well. In a 3rd circle, drawn above these two and again overlapping, write down what people will (or do) pay you for…
Where these three circles overlap is your “secret sauce”, or what you need to be talking about in your podcast. THIS is what you’re good at, how you can best serve your audience, and thus boost your podcast listeners. A true win-win!
