What to Say to a Podcast Guest after they say Something Quotable

We’ve all heard it. A podcast episode where the guest says something really good and the host says, “oh my goodness, I LOVE THAT!”

INSERT ROLLING EYES HERE.

Have you heard that phrase? I have. And, after hearing it over and over it seems that it is a little disingenuous.

And, let’s be honest WE ALL DO IT. We don’t want to admit it, but we do. #podcasthostsunite

I have brainstormed ways to respond that will fit you and your personality but will mix it up for the sake of everyones ears!

Here are 10 phrases you can say when your podcast guest says something that’s good and quotable!

  1. “Whoa, that’ll PREACH right there!

  2. “That is so interesting that you said that because…”

  3. “I think that is gonna resonate with my audience because…”

  4. “That is a powerful statement. Did you always feel that way?”

  5. “You are exactly right. I’ve seen that in my own life as well.”

  6. “That phrase that you just said is one of the reasons I had you on the show.”

  7. “That’s the truth.”

  8. “That drives it home.”

  9. “I love that you said that because…”

  10. “Ok, that is something we should all write down and tell ourselves everyday.”

I always have a pencil in my hand to jot down any key words or phrases that my guest will share. That way I can circle back to that part in a follow up question.

Active listening is super important in each of our interviews and it is a skill that I rely heavily upon when I’m chatting with a podcast guest. The “pencil in hand” tactic really is a life saver because for someone like me who has shiny object syndrome, I can get a lil distracted. Writing down key phrases helps me and you too!
