ep 120: Melanie Shankle: Looking on the Bright Side
Hi friend! Last week I loved having my hubs, Jim join me on the podcast talking about things we wished we knew before we got married. It’s fun, lighthearted and he had a little bit too much fun with the sound effects. #ohyeah You can listen to it here.
Today’s episode is with Melanie Shankle. Melanie is a wife to Perry, mom of her only child, Caroline, blogger, speaker, and author. She loves fashion, reading, watching Netflix and spends her extra time watching Caroline play Soccer.
You will hear Melanie share how she went from blogger to author on the NY Bestsellers list with her books about motherhood, marriage, and friendship. We talk about what it looks like as a mom of an only child, what God taught her when she walked through a difficult time in her life losing one of her best friends, and about comparing ourselves to other women. She also shares about her new book coming out called, “On the Bright Side” and her first children’s book called “Piper and Mabel about her two super active yet fun dogs”!

Quotes from the episode:
“Hey, we’re all in this together and we’re all figuring it out. I write my books like I’m talking to my best friend.”
“I can love being a mom and I can want to run away and spend the night down in a nice hotel away from my family at the same time…those things aren’t mutually exclusive.”
“I think we so discount the grace and mercy that God’s gonna give us to walk through whatever we have to walk through.”
“But, I want Caroline to see this is what friendship looks like…you are with someone through the good and the bad and the hard and the ugly and there’s beauty in that.”
“ I just think any time you put yourself out there, there’s always a risk of getting hurt, I think that’s life, but to me it’s so worth it because those are the things that make life worth living.”
“Another woman’s good news doesn’t limit what God wants to do in my life.”
“We buy into this lie that there are finite number of blessings…that one woman’s good news means that that may be less that we can get.”
“If we train ourselves to look for the bright, then I think we start to see more bright.”
