ep. 139: Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith: Sacred Rest

Last time we were together, you heard from writer, Catherine Parks. Catherine shared about why vulnerability really does matter in our relationships.  We talked on a practical level about how to point our hearts and our friends’ hearts to Jesus and it was like a balm to my soul.  If you haven’t listened yet, check it out on your podcast app or as always you can find it on my web site wrenrobbins.com if that is easier.

We only have 2 more guests in this series, ya’ll!  It’s FLOWN by!  I hope each conversation with experts in their field have given you excellent strategies and a shot in the arm for living healthy after our time of quarantine! Take a screen shot of an episode, post in instastories, and tag me!  I would love to see it and repost it in my stories as well!

Today’s guest is Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith.  Dr. Saundra is a wife and mom and a Board certified medical doctor who has reached her breaking point of burnout a few years back when her two teenage children were toddlers. At that point, she started doing loads of scientific and Biblical research on the subject of REST and how to integrate it as a daily lifestyle.  She is sharing that with us today and I can’t wait.

SHOW NOTES:

Quotes from the episode:

“God, you have given me everything I asked for, so why am I hating this life I’m living?”

“I can’t do this anymore…mind, body, spirit… I’m exhausted.”

“Science and Bible Based Truth have to work hand in hand.”

“I wanted to find those two parts of it (the science and the research) and I wanted the Biblical scriptural basis of what rest is.”

“What kind of tired are you?”

“What kind of restorative activities are going to make me feel rested?”

“Rest is about restoration.”

“If you don’t restore it, it just gets to a place of depletion.”

“Stop looking at rest as sleep or the cessation of activity.”

“The purpose of rest is to restore.”

“Rest at its core function is a restorative activity.”

“To me, rest is the bridge between my day and my sleep.”

“Stop in the moment and do something restful right then.”

“So we don’t work to earn our rest, we are to work from our place of rest.”

Seven Types of Rest:

1)  Physical

2)  Mental

3)  Spiritual

4)  Emotional

5)  Social

6)  Sensory

7)  Creative
