I know these mistakes well...because I’ve made them myself! So consider this a word to the wise...
1 - Not sharing your episode creatively
You want to share your episode with your email list, and on your socials, and heck, why not family and friends while we’re at it, right? The key here is...creatively!
How to fix it:
Share it in a variety of ways. As a static post, as a video or IG reel, talk about it in IG or FB stories, or share an embarrassing behind-the-scenes video. Talk about one aspect in it in a “live” and then tell your listeners to go listen to the rest… “Creatively” usually requires you to get your face in front of a camera, but you can still have fun with it!
2 - Only sharing the episode once
I used to do this. I’d post it in my IG feed once that week, and that’s IT. But just because you sent that post out doesn’t mean your readers have all seen it, and it’s more likely that many of them didn’t!
How to fix it:
Make sure you share it more than once! Refer to mistake #1 for some creative ways to do so, and don’t forget to tell your list about it!!
3 - Not building a graphic with your guest’s photo and/or name
If your guest has gone to the trouble of being on your show, the least you can do is repay the favor by promoting them with a graphic.
How to fix it:
Give them a choice with a few graphics (at least 2) after their episode has aired. Send it to them via email and let them share however they’d like. It’s an easy-peasy way to introduce yourself to your guest’s audience.
4 - Making it difficult for your guests to share their episode
Same as for a call to action, if you don’t make it easy, people won’t share! It’s just human nature.
How to fix it:
Make it straightforward for your guest to share it. Send them an email with a link so they can listen, along with a graphic or two (see mistake #3). And do this the morning the episode airs - or even the night before. This way you share your excitement with them and it’s on the top of their mind to tell everyone in their circle.
5 - Not using those power-packed quotes inside the episode
You had your guest on for a reason. And chances are, they have a message and shared some goooood content. Don’t waste that brilliance!
How to fix it:
Go back and listen to the episode and write down those power-packed gold nuggets in your conversation. Use them as a basis for graphics, or even write them down on a sheet of paper, take a picture, and add them to your FB or IG stories!
Overwhelmed at them all? Try just ONE of them and see the difference it makes -
