How to Serve Your Listeners Well in a Solo Episode: Podcast Audit #2 with Wren Robbins

This is the 2nd episode in our series of podcast audits this month. As I coach a podcaster about a specific aspect of their show, offer feedback, and make some suggestions, it is my hope that you, too, will be able to catch some gems that you can apply, too!

So let’s dive in!

Please welcome Joy and her podcast Playfully Faithful Parenting!

(Our interview has been edited for space and clarity.)

Joy started PFP in August (2021) and it’s all about equipping and encouraging Christian moms in discipline and discipling their children using play.

WR - So, Joy, is your podcast a passion project or business?

JW - Kind of both! I’m working on monetizing it, and I have already done some coaching. But don’t really have dreams of it being a 6-figure, full-time income.

WR - What do you want your listeners to leave each episode with?

JW -  I want them to feel encouraged that they can disciple their kids at home, rather than expecting the church to do it. I want them to see that God has already equipped them!

WR - OK, so let me start with you’re doing really well.

1 - I love that you’re doing a great job leaving your links in your podcast description, but I had a little bit of trouble finding all your details on your blog.

2 - And you may want to consider fine-tuning the words you use in your monologue. For example “Here are 5 things you can do…” or “Here’s what to ask when…” Think practical, but also be super clear. It’s great to use stories, of course, but it’s also important to bring it in practically…

JW - So, should I just replace what I’m saying with the practical aspect, or…?

WR - No, I think you can use a story to introduce it, then explain what you learned from it. And then pull the 3 or so things from that…And I noticed you have an ebook on pre-order…

JW - Yes!

WR - So then go ahead and use that as your call to action, the icing on the cake! Tie everything up and then encourage them to go ahead and pre-order it.

With that, Joy had a few things she could implement to move forward with her podcast…and we can call that another audit for the books!
