In today’s episode, I hope you will be touched and ministered by the conversation I had with my childhood friend, Angie. She and Nathan have been married for 20 years, and are parents to Mariana (16), Adrian (13), and Graham (11). She works in Women’s Ministry at Faith Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. Years ago, they walked through the pain of losing a child, and she shares that journey with us today.
It all started when her daughter Mariana was just under 2 years old, and Angie went in for a regularly-scheduled ultrasound for her 2nd pregnancy.
Everything looked great…until it didn’t. The technician was quiet and concerned, and after a few minutes told them she needed to get their doctor.
The doctor walked in, already with tears in his eyes, took a look at the screen, and turned to them. Quietly he informed them that what they were seeing on the ultrasound indicated that their baby was “incompatible with life.” In that flash of time, their visit, their day, their entire life, took an unforgettable, life-changing, turn.
This is truly a story of God’s faithfulness and a lesson of what can happen when we fully trust and lean on the Lord. Angie’s word of comfort to anyone today who is struggling through a situation of pain and loss that doesn’t seem to make sense is this: we need to surrender our right to know, our desire to understand what’s going on because that can rob us of seeing the bigger picture of what God can do. Sometimes there is no answer… But He is so faithful to make beauty from ashes. He promises to be there for us, and He promises us that He is enough.
